Street Fighter POP! Review
Street Fighter made its debut in arcades back in 1987 but it wasn’t until the sequel Street Fighter II in 1991 that it became the massive phenomenon it is today. Street Fighter II was the first to be released on the home consoles Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis selling more than 14 Million copies. Street Fighter II was the first one-on-one fighting game to give players a choice from a variety of characters with different moves. There have been multiple versions of the Street Fighter franchise over the years including the newest Street Fighter V released in 2016.
We are taking a look at POP! Games Street Fighter Series 1. Included in this set are Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Cammy, Blanka, Balrog and Dan. All of the characters look great in the classic POP! standing pose. I think Funko captured the essence of each character pretty well and they chose perfect characters with the exception of Dan. I never really liked the character but as sort of a Ryu clone it was probably an easy choice for Funko to include him. One little nitpick is that Balrog who is one of the larger characters in the game is the smallest so that is a little disappointing.
Overall I’m impressed with this line so far and glad they finally got the POP! treatment. I’m hoping future releases include one of my favorite characters Guile as well as Zangief, E. Honda, Dhalsim, M. Bison, Vega and many others from the franchise. It would also be nice to get some of the character in their classic fighting poses or performing their special moves. Ryu throwing a Hadouken, Ken in mid Shoryuken, Blanka’s electric thunder would all be fantastic.
